Saffron is an agricultural product classified in the family of spices. It stems from the culture of the species Crocus sativus L. of the Iridaceae family. The flower has two main stigmas( the distal ends of the carpels of the plant) and the "stem" connecting a stigma with the rest of the plant). This latest stigma are often dried and used in cooking as a seasoning or as coloring agent in stews and with rice.
